Charcoal Gully Sallys Pinch Pinot Noir 2011

The fruit (clones 5, 115, 667 & 777) was harvested on 26 March 2011 and de-stemmed into 2 x 7T stainless steel tanks to undergo a period of cold soak, before being inoculated with selected wine yeasts to carry out the fermentation.  The wine was aged in French Oak barriques for just over 11 months, of which 32% was new oak.

Winemaker's tasting notes

Dark purple, with purple hues; perfumed dark fruit, such as plums and cherry, with violets and a hint of spicy oak on the nose.  Rich, sweet brambly fruit on the palate, with some dried herbs and spice.  A medium bodied, mouth-filling wine with supple, velvety tannins and a long lingering finish.

Additional tasting notes

Fabulously ripe and sensuous, the bouquet shows game, dark fruits and floral, leading to a powerful, sturdy palate. Lovely focus and density – Air New Zealand Wine Awards 2012
