The People

Brian Sanders

Brian Sanders has a passion for the rugged outdoors and for many years was a keen tramper. These days he is still up for the odd challenge such as walking to the top of Mt Pisa just for the fun of it. He was born and grew up in Christchurch but work has found him living in Washington DC, Moscow, Riyadh, Bangkok, Honiara and Tehran. Despite living offshore periodically, Brian is still a kiwi at heart and looks forward to settling into life on the vineyard within the next few years.

Cheryll Sanders

Cheryll Sanders’ memories of a carefree childhood roaming hills amongst the stark beauty of Central Otago (as a resident of Cromwell) were one of the driving forces in returning to the area. At the age of 14, her parents moved to Christchurch but school summer holidays were often spent with relatives in Bannockburn, Cromwell and Millers Flat. Cheryll has worked in education both as a teacher and consultant within New Zealand and abroad. She looks forward to renewing her acquaintance with rural living soon.

Robin Dicey

Robin Dicey, who has viticulture in his blood was the guru upon whom we relied to establish the vineyard. His sound advice, wry wit and pragmatic approach to overcoming unforeseen challenges were invaluable and his welcome news of the successful planting of the first vines was a memorable milestone.

James Dicey

James Dicey has now taken over from father, Robin. He and his team continue to use a pragmatic, collaborative and informed approach in getting the best out of the vineyard.

Peter Bartle

Peter Bartle began making wine for Charcoal Gully when he joined Vin Pro in May 2010. He brings with him extensive experience in working at Villa Maria, Forrest Estate, Olssens and Peregrine. Pete shares our vision and has quickly developed an understanding of the vineyard to skillfully craft premium fruit driven wines.

Fiona Mcleod

Fiona has worked in the wine industry for a number of years. She is currently promoting Charcoal Gully wines in both the North and South Islands.
